MBE for Ellen White in New Year Honours List

The award marks a memorable year for the Aylesbury footballer, after success at Euro 2022 and the news she is expecting her first child.

Ellen, 33, is England's all time leading goal scorer and started every game as the Lionesses won the Euros this summer. After her retirement, the former Grange pupil took to social media to announce she's due to become a mum for the first time in April.

Her international team mate, captain Leah Williamson, from Milton Keynes, received an OBE.

Others from Bucks included in the Honours List include:

Martin Andrew from Haddenham, who was recognised for his community work, particularly during the pandemic. He played a vital part in the Covid vaccination rollout in Haddenham, and is awarded a BEM.

Robin Faccenda, from Buckingham, former chairman of Faccenda Investments, was made an OBE for services to the UK poultry industry and to education.

Cynthia Tooley, founder of Jedidiah Pantry, on Castle Street, Buckingham, becomes an OBE. Jedidiah is a free food pantry that gives away surplus food from the town’s supermarkets to anyone who is struggling to afford food.

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, The Countess Howe, said:

 “I am delighted for the Buckinghamshire residents recognised with an award in the 2023 New Years Honours.

 "It has been an extraordinary year in many ways, with the celebration of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and then the sadness of her death, followed by the accession of King Charles III. It is so heartening to see all of the exemplary work that is happening across the county despite the continuing adversity faced by many with the cost of living pressures and the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. Buckinghamshire is privileged to be home to a number of diverse and gifted individuals who work tirelessly to improve the lives of our residents and the wider population of this nation. It gives me immense pride that their achievements have been recognised and they should be justifiably proud. I applaud them all and thank them for their admirable commitment and dedication.”

 Lady Howe added: “I would encourage everyone to consider if they know of an individual whom they might nominate for a national honour. There are many unsung heroes continually going above and beyond in our communities and improving the lives of our residents. The Buckinghamshire Lieutenancy Office can provide guidance on how to make a nomination.”
