The Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity has announced 2 new patrons – Bucks Radio presenter Nathan Cooper and Steven Lambert, the former Mayor of Aylesbury.
Both have been keen supporters of the hospice and their roles were confirmed at the charity's hospice briefing on Thursday (25/9) at Stowe School.
Nathan has a long standing relationship with the charity which dates back nearly 30 when he took part in a fundraising bowling competition at the Jardines in Aylesbury – and finished in last place! He has compered and hosted many shows for them, had a cameo role in their on stage production of Nativity the Musical, while also having a very personal experience when his late wife spent time at the hospice.
He said; “It’s a privilege to be asked to became patron of the charity. The hospice is such an amazing place but without the work of the charity, wouldn’t be able to support those when they need it most. I remember how at ease my wife felt the first time she need to stay there. They made a difficult situation so much more relaxing, and for that my family will always be grateful. Of course, not every experience ends the same way, and so many people come away from the hospice with new hope and a new life.
I look forward to continuing to help promote and assist at the fundraising events – as long as it doesn’t involve 10 pin bowling!”
Steven has also seen first hand experience difference the hospice makes as they've supported friends of his. He took part in their Strictly show last year and has visited the centre on many occasions during his time as mayor.
He said: “I am honoured to become a Patron of the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity. Having seen the hospice’s incredible work – from supporting friends in their recovery from cancer to caring with such kindness for a close friend and her family in her final illness, Florence is very close to my heart.
Since stepping down from politics this year, I wanted to support a local charity that truly means something to me and my community. Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is all about compassion, strength, and hope, and I am proud to champion its work.
From visiting the Day Hospice as Mayor of Aylesbury to taking part in Strictly Florence with my professional dancer, Jess Simmonds in 2024, I’ve seen the energy and commitment of everyone involved and my aim is to continue that”.
Jo Turner, CEO of Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity said:
“We are delighted that Nathan Cooper and Steven Lambert are joining us as patrons. Both Nathan and Steven are great supporters of Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity and I know that they will be exceptional representatives in our community. We are pleased to welcome them to Team Florence and feel proud that they will represent us in the future.”
