Buckinghamshire Council has invited residents and stakeholders to submit questions and views on its proposed budget for 2026–27, as it prepares for scrutiny of its draft financial plans.
The council says it is facing unprecedented financial pressures, citing rising costs, growing demand for statutory services such as adult social care and special educational needs support, and a reduction in funding in real terms following the central government’s Fair Funding Review.
Following a public consultation held last autumn, the council has developed a draft budget for the 2026–27 financial year. This draft will be considered by the Budget Scrutiny Inquiry Task and Finish Group in mid-January.
Ahead of that meeting, the council is inviting questions on specific aspects of the proposed budget to be submitted for consideration by the scrutiny committee. Questions must be emailed to budget.scrutiny@buckinghamshire.gov.uk by 12pm on 11 January 2026.
The council has said the scrutiny process will help inform further discussions before decisions are made on the final budget.
