Bucks boundaries change for Summer General Election

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has announced a General Election will take place on July 4th this year, when there will be 8 boundaries for Buckinghamshire voters.

The new Bucks boundaries have been revised to better reflect population changes and ensure equitable representation. These changes involve redrawing constituency lines to balance the number of voters in each area, addressing demographic shifts and urban development. The Boundary Commission for England's review has led to adjustments that might see some towns and villages allocated to different constituencies than before. The aim is to create constituencies with roughly equal electorates, improving fairness in representation. These new boundaries will come into effect in the next general election, potentially altering the political landscape of Buckinghamshire by changing which voters fall into which constituencies.

They are: Aylesbury; Beaconsfield; Buckingham and Bletchley; Chesham and Amersham; Mid Buckinghamshire; Milton Keynes Central; Milton Keynes North; and Wycombe.

Aylesbury:

  • The District of Buckinghamshire wards of: Aston Clinton and Bierton; Aylesbury East; Aylesbury North; Aylesbury North West; Aylesbury South East; Aylesbury South West; Aylesbury West; Ivinghoe; Wing.

The constituency will be subject to significant changes, with southern, largely rural parts, including the town of Wendover, to be included in the newly created seat of Mid Buckinghamshire. To partly compensate, the boundaries will be extended northwards to include the communities of Ivinghoe and Wing, together with surrounding rural areas, currently part of the (to be abolished) Buckingham constituency.

Beaconsfield:

  • The District of Buckinghamshire wards of: Beaconsfield; Cliveden; Denham (polling districts SJ, SJA, SJHD, SK, SKA and SWF); Farnham Common and Burnham Beeches; Flackwell Heath, Little Marlow and Marlow South East; Gerrards Cross (polling districts SB and SFH); Iver; Marlow; Stoke Poges and Wexham; Wooburns, Bourne End and Hedsor.

The electorate will be reduced to bring it within the permitted range by transferring the town of Gerrards Cross to Chesham and Amersham.

Buckingham and Bletchley:

  • The District of Buckinghamshire wards of: Buckingham East; Buckingham West; Great Brickhill; Winslow.
  • The City of Milton Keynes wards of: Bletchley East; Bletchley Park; Bletchley West; Tattenhoe.

The constituency will comprise the following areas:

  • The town of Buckingham and surrounding rural areas (Great Brickhill and Winslow wards), transferred from the constituency of Buckingham (to be abolished, with remaining areas included in the new seat of Mid Buckinghamshire, or transferred to Aylesbury)
  • The City of Milton Keynes wards of Bletchley East, Bletchley Park, Bletchley West and Tattenhoe, transferred from Milton Keynes South (to be renamed Milton Keynes Central)

Chesham and Amersham:

  • The District of Buckinghamshire wards of: Amersham and Chesham Bois; Chalfont St. Giles; Chalfont St. Peter; Chesham; Chess Valley; Chiltern Ridges (polling districts CD and CDA); Denham (polling district SGE); Gerrards Cross (polling districts SGN and SGS); Hazlemere; Little Chalfont and Amersham Common; Penn Wood and Old Amersham.

The boundaries will be similar to those of 1983 to 2010, with Great Missenden now being included in the newly created constituency of Mid Buckinghsmshire and Hazlemere being returned from Wycombe. In addition, the town of Gerrards Cross will be transferred from Beaconsfield.

Mid Buckinghamshire:

  • The District of Buckinghamshire wards of: Bernwood; Chiltern Ridges (polling districts CG, CGA, CM, CMA, CMB, CMC and CSB); Great Missenden; Grendon Underwood; Ridgeway East; Ridgeway West; Stone and Waddesdon; The Risboroughs; Wendover, Halton and Stoke Mandeville.

The constituency will comprise the following areas:

  • Western and southern areas of the (to be abolished) constituency of Buckingham, including Haddenham and Princes Risborough
  • Southern parts of the Aylesbury constituency, including Wendover and the two Ridgeway wards
  • Great Missenden, transferred from Chesham and Amersham.

Milton Keynes Central:

The constituency will be formed from northern areas (except for Stony Stratford) of Milton Keynes South (to be abolished) and southern parts of a reconfigured Milton Keynes North, including the city centre. It will comprise the following wards of the City of Milton Keynes:

  • Broughton
  • Campbell Park & Old Woughton
  • Central Milton Keynes
  • Danesborough & Walton
  • Loughton & Shenley
  • Monkston
  • Shenley Brook End
  • Woughton & Fishermead.

Milton Keynes North:

  • The Milton Keynes City Council wards of: Bradwell; Newport Pagnell North & Hanslope; Newport Pagnell South; Olney; Stantonbury; Stony Stratford; Wolverton.

"The constituency will be subject to major changes, with the city centre and suburbs to the east (comprising 43% of the current electorate) being included in the new constituency of Milton Keynes Central. To partly compensate, Stony Stratford will be added to Milton Keynes North from the (to be abolished) Milton Keynes South seat".[11] (A new constituency, Buckingham and Bletchley will (in effect) give Milton Keynes its third parliamentary constituency, albeit one that straddles the border with Buckinghamshire Council.)

Wycombe:

  • The District of Buckinghamshire wards of: Abbey; Booker, Cressex and Castlefield; Chiltern Villages; Downley; Ryemead and Micklefield; Terriers and Amersham Hill; Totteridge and Bowerdean; Tylers Green and Loudwater; West Wycombe.

The electorate will be reduced to bring it within the permitted range by transferring the Hazlemere ward to Chesham and Amersham.
