People living close to the potential facility have been given until 29 January to comment on the plans
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has promised to extend a consultation seeking the views of residents and businesses on plans for a potential new prison in Buckinghamshire, adjacent to the existing Grendon and Springhill prisons.
Originally, the consultation was set for three weeks in the run up to Christmas. But criticism from residents living close to the site complained the timing was too short, leading to Buckingham MP, Greg Smith to raise concerns with the Secretary of State for Justice, the Rt Hon Robert Buckland QC MP, who agreed to extend the consultation.
No final decision has been taken on whether the Ministry of Justice will formally progress these proposals and no planning application has yet been submitted to Buckinghamshire Council.
Greg Smith said: "This consultation is an opportunity for the Ministry of Justice to hear views and receive feedback from local residents, business and public services before any formal decisions are taken. It is absolutely vital that everyone locally takes part and ensures our voice is heard loud and clear. I will be backing residents 100% on this and making a formal submission myself."
