The service has officially launched a public consultation on its proposed blueprint for operations over the next five years.
The consultation, which began this month, will continue until October 2024, inviting feedback from the public on the service’s strategic plan for 2025 to 2030.
The draft strategy, outlined in the BFRS Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP), details how the service intends to provide fire and rescue services across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. This plan not only reflects on the progress made over the past five years but also addresses the anticipated local and global changes that could impact the service in the future.
"The CRMP identifies the key challenges that lie ahead and takes into account what our community has told us is important," said a BFRS spokesperson. "We’ve balanced factors like climate change, pandemic preparedness, partnership support, and budget constraints, both locally and nationally, to shape our strategy."
One of the central elements of the new plan is an increased emphasis on fire prevention in homes and businesses. Additionally, BFRS aims to foster a culture change within the organization, focusing on modernizing its approach to workforce recruitment, retention, and resourcing.
The CRMP also highlights BFRS’s commitment to adapting to evolving risks, with a strategic focus on resilience in the face of climate and weather-related challenges, as well as continuing to enhance its pandemic response capabilities.
BFRS is encouraging residents, businesses, and other stakeholders in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes to participate in the consultation process. Feedback collected will play a crucial role in shaping the final version of the CRMP, which will guide BFRS’s operations from April 2025 through March 2030.
Those interested in reviewing the draft CRMP and providing input can do so through the BFRS website (EXTERNAL SITE) and will remain open until of 11.59pm on Sunday 13 October 2024.
