Buckinghamshire is set to receive £7.2 million in funding from the government’s new Connect to Work programme, aimed at supporting around 1,650 people across the county who are sick, disabled, or facing barriers to employment.
The initiative, launched by the Labour government, is designed to help people find secure and sustainable jobs through tailored local support. In Buckinghamshire, the programme will be shaped around the needs of local communities, with potential measures including job advisers in GP surgeries, confidence-building workshops, and assistance with childcare.
Aylesbury MP Laura Kyrke-Smith welcomed the announcement, saying the locally designed funding will ensure support focuses on what works best for Buckinghamshire’s communities. Watch her reaction to news below.
The Connect to Work scheme forms part of a wider national plan to boost employment and reduce economic inactivity by making it easier for people to access personalised help and training.
According to the government, the investment will “unlock potential” across Buckinghamshire, helping more residents to find good, secure jobs and thrive in the local economy.
