Two major roads will close over this weekend until Sunday the 12th April, although an additional closure has been cancelled.
It might be the Easter holidays but there's no break from roadworks for those driving in Aylesbury. Wendover Road closes from 7pm this evening (27th March) - due to South East Link Road work - followed by Oakfield Road closing tomorrow (28th March).

Whilst Wendover Road is set to reopen at 6pm on Sunday the 12th, the permit lasts until 6am on the Monday (13th).The official SEARL bulletin (external link), says the team has already recently undertaken some work close to Silver Birch Way, which meant 3 way temporary traffic lights on the 17th March. They added that whilst the SEALR team 'apologises for the recent and forthcoming inconvenience', 'these works will result in the roundabout being operational.'
The bulletin also outlined that these Easter works would be similar to those that took place over February half-term, with the official diversion route being Wendover Road, Mandeville Road, Lower Road, Station Road, Wendover Road and vice versa, adding that 'this will clearly be busy during the closure periods'.
Local residents should be warned that the noisiest works are set to take place during the day (such as planing the carriageway and laying the new surfacing, which will take place over the Easter weekend). There will be works at night though, which will make some noise, including: installing noise barriers, installing signs and laying cables. Other works set to take place during the closure includes the installation of pedestrian crossings on 3 of the approaches to the roundabout.
Bus diverts are as follows:
Route 50 will run between Aylesbury and the Elm Farm Estate as normal, then divert via Bedgrove, the A41, Aston Clinton, Weston Road and Main Street in Weston Turville (and vice versa) resuming normal route on Worlds End Lane. In Weston Turville route 50 buses towards Aylesbury will stop directly outside the Chandos pub.
Route 55, 55A and 55B will divert via Mandeville Road and Station Road in Stoke Mandeville missing all stops in Elm Farm and Wendover Road.
For pedestrians and cyclists, access will remain in place through the closure but routes used may change depending on the work that is being undertaken each day.
The Oakfield Road closure comes as a result of gas mains replacement works by SGN, with no left turn from Bellingham Way and no right turn from Stocklake.
There is some good news for drivers though - roadworks scheduled for Churchill Avenue from the 30th March to the 7th April have been cancelled. However, we're being warned to expect work on Wendover Road to repair the road between Wendover Way and Bedgrove during May half term.
