Bucks Council want to plant one tree for every woman, man and child in Bucks, that's 543,000 trees. The plans are part of the councils aim to have zero net emissions by 2050.
When asked about the inspiration behind the amount of trees being planned, Bill Chapple OBE, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate change said "I'm a great believer in ownership and if people think they have a tree that's been planted for them, they will help look after them. I want to get the youngsters out there helping us as they will then own it as well."
Talks are being held on a potential Memorial Wood for residents who have unfortunately lost their life to the virus: "I'm also talking with the health authorities about the possibility of planting a memorial wood, where we can dedicate it to the people who have lost their lives to COVID."
Bill insists that he is passionate about projects like this, as they will benefit the children and future generations of Bucks: "When you look 30 years into a policy, [it's like] when you plant a tree. You never get the shade from that tree, it's the next generation that gets the shade, and that's hope and if you haven't got hope you haven't got the ability to look to the future."
