Sarah Green MP is calling for Ofwat to stop water companies from implementing large water bill hikes.
It comes as bills for Thames Water customers are set to rise by 23% over the next five years, despite Thames Water polluting rivers, lakes and chalk streams with raw sewage.
Green has previously called for Ofwat to be scrapped and replaced with a new regulator which uses its “teeth and enforces”.
Commenting on the news that Ofwat is set to approve Thames Water’s request to increase bills Sarah Green MP said:
“Those who have been forced to watch Thames Water pump their filthy sewage into our waterways should not be forced to pick up the tab in any way for the firm's economic incompetence. The proposed 23% hike in bills will feel like an insult. The company is clearly no longer fit for purpose and needs to be taken into special administration.”
“It’s time the regulator started blocking Thames Water’s planned dividend payouts and eye-watering bill hikes.
“It is clear the public want action to be taken to finally crackdown on this rogue firm. The government regulator should listen to this call”.

Sarah Green recently met with Chalfont St Giles Parish Council to discuss the flooding and pollution in the village.
