In August an aircraft clipped a vehicle while trying to land
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has concluded its investigation into an incident in Buckinghamshire last year.
On August 24th 2022 an aircraft clipped an articulated vehicle whilst making its final approach.
The pilot reported noticing a vehicle turning onto a road near the runway but was focused on landing at this point.
A "bang" was heard as the aircraft passed over the road, and the passenger saw the vehicle underneath them.
In order to assess any potential damage the aircraft diverted and flew to Elstree Aerodrome.
The AAIB has found that the aircraft was too low on its approach to the runway at Finmere Aerodrome.
The driver of the vehicle provided photographs showing tyre marks left by the aircraft.
No injuries were reported by those involved.
The owner of Finmere Aerodrome says she will be reminding pilots of the roads proximity and that the "normal approach path" to the runway should have sufficient height to pass over any vehicles.
A Canal & River Trust spokesperson has confirmed, “Water is now being restored to this pound after an issue caused by interference with lock apparatus."
The Aylesbury Arm has been closed to navigation since mid-June due to low water levels. The charity is working hard to keep boats afloat, amid the challenges of an exceptionally dry spring and summer and the statutory works currently under way at Wilstone Reservoir. They would ask boaters and members of the public to report any interference to the equipment which is helping their team to do that critical work.”
