Big Give Boost for Hospice at Home Care

Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity has today launched its first-ever Big Give Christmas Challenge, a major fundraising appeal running until 9th December 2025.

The charity is calling on the community across Buckinghamshire and the surrounding areas to help raise £70,000 to fund a dedicated overnight Hospice at Home Team.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s largest match-funding campaign, and for this period all donations made through the appeal will be doubled at no extra cost to supporters. It means every pound given has twice the impact, helping the charity reach more patients and families when they need support most.

For Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, the appeal represents a vital opportunity to expand the care available throughout the night. A dedicated overnight Hospice at Home Team will enable specialist nurses to visit patients in their own homes, offering personal care, symptom management and emotional support during hours when families often feel most alone.

Chief Executive Officer Jo Turner explained the importance of the service:

“We know many families face their hardest moments at night. This campaign will help us ensure that no one has to face those moments alone. Every donation given through the Big Give will help us reach more people who need us, when they need us most. If someone can donate £10, it will be doubled to £20, making double the difference to the care we provide at night.

Families who have already benefited from Hospice at Home support say the care provided by the team has been transformational.

Ed, whose mother was cared for at home, said:

“She loved her home, looking out over the garden she had created, and the care she received from the Florence Nightingale Team was priceless. She loved it when they walked through the door.”

Nigel, who supported his wife through the end of her life, shared a similar experience:

“Being at home was such a relief for us all. I think that the ability to die in your own home is what most people want.”

Every year, Florence Nightingale Hospice provides essential hospice care for thousands of patients, funded largely through the generosity of local people, businesses, shops and volunteers. But rising demand for end-of-life care, particularly overnight, has highlighted the need for additional resources to expand the Hospice at Home service.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge offers a unique chance to make that expansion possible. With matched funding pledged by generous supporters and partners, every donation will go twice as far in helping the charity reach its £70,000 target.

The charity is encouraging individuals, families, schools, community groups and businesses across the region to get involved, donate if they can, and help spread the word.
