Support Available for Aylesbury Residents Struggling With School Uniform and Financial Hardship

With the new school year approaching and the cost of living continuing to affect households across Buckinghamshire, help is available for families in Aylesbury struggling to afford school uniforms and other essentials.

The William Harding Charity is offering targeted grants to support children, students, and apprentices living in hardship.

Families in need can apply for a grant for each child in the household. Application forms are available on the charity’s website, and residents are encouraged to apply online.

In addition to supporting families with children, new grants have been launched for those living or working in Aylesbury who are following an apprenticeship route with an employer. This scheme is being delivered in partnership with Heart of Bucks, who are fund-matching the grants to extend the reach of the support.

Employers in the area are encouraged to share this information with apprentices or individuals considering vocational training, as the funding can provide vital financial backing during the early stages of a career.

The charity continues to support the wider community by providing grants not only to individuals in hardship, but also to local charities and through the provision of Almshouses. For those progressing to university or further education, additional financial help is available, along with tool grants for apprentices and learners in skilled trades.

Families often approach schools or the local council for help with uniform costs. Buckinghamshire Council may signpost families to grant-giving organisations such as William Harding's Charity, or to the school for further support.

The charity’s historical mission—to assist young people in education—continues into the 21st century with grants supporting school uniforms, school trips, higher education maintenance, and financial support for educational and community organisations. It also supports a wide range of local entities including schools, sports clubs, arts societies, and community projects. William Harding's Charity additionally maintains 35 almshouses across Aylesbury for older residents.

All details, including eligibility and application forms, can be found on the charity’s website (External link).
