Residents in Amersham are benefitting as major roadworks involving gas mains replacement and follow-on resurfacing works have been completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
The works, by external utility company Cadent Gas, were due to take six weeks but were completed in only four. Buckinghamshire Highways teams were able to take advantage of the early finish of the utilities work and start the follow up resurfacing work so the whole project has finished two weeks ahead of schedule. An additional hydrant water leak which emerged during the period was also fixed by Affinity Water in time for Buckinghamshire Highways to re-lay the final road surface.
Steven Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport said: "We're delighted that we've been able to finish the major roadworks on Stanley Hill in Amersham two weeks early. Cadent Gas worked quickly and efficiently on the gas mains replacement, which meant that we were able to undertake our maintenance works sooner. These works included reinforcing the carriageway and iron works to increase their life span and minimise the risk of settlement. We have also cleared the gullies ahead of the autumn and winter months, resurfaced the road and repainted lines. I would like to thank residents for their patience while these essential works were completed."
Buckinghamshire Council works closely with third party utility companies such as gas, electric, water and broadband providers to coordinate essential scheduled and emergency works on the highways. Steven said: "As a council we have limited powers to stop works from going ahead where they are essential repairs or upgrades. Instead, we work to try and minimise the disruption that will be caused to local residents, with our aim being to get the work done as efficiently as possible. Some level of disruption is often unavoidable, but we thank residents for their understanding during these times and wish to reassure them that we always seek to cause the minimum disruption possible for the shortest amount of time."
Steven added: "Works like those with Cadent Gas in Amersham are a great example of how we can work seamlessly together with third party companies to make necessary improvements and coordinate our efforts to get the job done as efficiently as possible."
