The incident occurred around 5.15pm on Tuesday (12/7) at the back of Wilko’s, Britannia Street, Aylesbury.
The victim, a woman in her thirties, was sexually assaulted behind the shop, and when the offender was confronted by members of the public he became agitated and argumentative.
A number of witnesses were present but officers would like to appeal to those witnesses who may not have come forward at the scene.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Sandrine Bonomo-Fox, based at Aylesbury police station, said: “I would like to appeal to anybody who may have been in this area during this time and witnessed anything, or have any footage, to please get in touch.
“You can get in touch by either making a report online or by calling 101 quoting reference number 43220307670.
“Alternatively, for 100% anonymity, you can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A 34-year-old man from Aylesbury was arrested for sexual assault and released on police bail whilst investigations continue.
