Mp for Buckingham Greg Smith, who instrumental in pausing the build for the motorway style road from Oxford to Cambridge, has said he is delighted at the decision.
The road would have run from Oxford to Cambridge, via Milton Keynes, going across the North of Bucks, through some of the more rural areas of the county.
Greg Smith says: "The cancelation means we're not going to see this whopping great road carve through our beautiful countryside, destroying peoples homes, farms, businesses - the very fabric of our villages."
In March 2020, Greg wrote Transport Secretary Grant Shapps a letter urging him to finally and formally scrap the Expressway scheme altogether, and after initially pausing the plans, the decision has now been made to abandon the plans of the motorway style road.
He added “I want to thank all local residents, local Conservative councillors and campaigners that have made their voices heard in making the case against this road. This is a hard earned victory."
