Marlow film studio planning application now available to view online

Location of the proposed Marlow Film Studio

The planning application to build a new film studio on the outskirts of Marlow has now been verified by Buckinghamshire Council and the documents – all 401 of them - are available to view online.

The proposed new studio covers 89-acres, the equivalent of nearly 60 football pitches, and would be built entirely on protected greenbelt land just off the A404 Westhorpe roundabout.

The project has raised significant objections in Marlow, with protest group ‘Save Marlow’s Greenbelt’ forming in response to the plans.

And within 24 hours of publication, three objections had been logged by members of the public on the council’s planning portal, with one resident of Marlow concluding, “this application does not favour the community - it's the destruction and demolition of an amazing wildlife area.”

A preliminary date for a decision on whether the film studio can go ahead has been given as 11th October 2022.

Marlow Film Studios are planning a series of ‘drop-in’ sessions at Marlow library over the next month for the public to ask questions.

Robert Laycock, CEO of Marlow Film Studios, said: “We’ve really appreciated that engagement over the last year has been so collaborative with the community. Planning documents have now been formally submitted, and so in the same spirit, members of the team continue to be available to answer any questions.

“Please do have a look at the application on Buckinghamshire Council’s website and get in touch with us to ask any queries you may have.

“For those who haven’t had an opportunity to engage with us so far, we’re available to discuss planning considerations, or indeed the wider supply-chain, sustainable transport, and educational aspects of the Studios.”

Planning documents, all 401 of them, can be found here.

The Marlow Film Studios drop-ins at Marlow library will take place at the following times:

•             Tuesday 28th June 1pm to 4pm

•             Tuesday 5th July 10am – 1pm

•             Thursday 14th July 12pm – 3pm

•             Saturday 23rd July 10am – 1pm

•             Tuesday 26th July 12pm – 3pm

We asked Verity West, who runs the charity Wild Marlow and is also a committee member of Save Marlow’s Greenbelt who are opposing the film studio project, what she thinks about the upcoming drop-in sessions. She said: “We’re about the facts and we want to make sure people have all the information available so that they can make an informed decision. So, I’d say to people to go along and ask questions but also please come and speak to us to get a balanced view before forming your opinion.”
