A club where older members of the community in Princes Risborough can meet to play bingo, have lunch and even go on holiday sometimes got some well-deserved recognition recently.
The Risborough Friendly Social Club started in 2016 with 15 members. Five years later, it now meets in the Carrington Rooms at the Princes Risborough Community Centre with 60 people enjoying its weekly get togethers on Friday afternoons in normal times.
Princes Risborough mayor Matthew Walsh honoured the club when he presented it with his Civic Award for Community Group of the Year 2020, albeit a year late because of the pandemic.
The club’s run by Carleen Acres and her family and they hope to restart meetings in October this year.
Members meet in Risborough and are taken to the Kings Hotel in Stokenchurch to enjoy lunch and a game of bingo. They have even been on holiday to Bournemouth and Weston-super-Mare.
Although they haven’t been able to hold any actual meetings in the last year, Carleen and her husband John have been keeping members informed by delivering and posting newsletters. Carleen’s mum Freda, brother, sister-in-law and her best friend also help to run the club. Freda was presented with the award.
Carleen said she’s always keen to welcome new members.
