Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue are reminding us about how to stay safe with e-scooters following a fire that took place last Sunday (29/6) in Aylesbury.
The ground floor of the house was around 80 per cent damaged by fire when an e-scooter which had been on charge overnight caught fire. Details of the incident can be found here (external site)
Here are some things BFRS recommend you can do when it comes to charging your e-scooter or e-bike:
- Always charge batteries when you’re awake and alert so you can respond quickly.
- Check your battery regularly for any signs of damage and if you suspect it is damaged it should be replaced and should not be used or charged.
- Always charge bikes and scooters behind a closed door.
- Always use the correct charger, one that is designed for the e-scooter or e-bike you are charging.
How to help avoid fires when charging:
- Avoid storing or charging e-bikes and e-scooters on escape routes or hallways.
- Do not charge batteries or store your e-bike or e-scooter near combustible or flammable materials.
- Do not leave the battery plugged in once charging is complete.
- Do not use chargers that are not designed for the e-bike or e-scooter you are charging.
