Heritage Open Days celebrate the country’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
There will be loads to see and do in Aylesbury on 11-12 September. All events are free but some need to be pre-booked.
Visit the Mayor’s Parlour and Town Hall Chamber to see the display of Civic Silverware and portraits. There will be an opportunity to meet the Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Anders Christensen.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the canal with commentary from an expert of the history of the canal. Visit the Quakers Cottages and meeting house in old Aylesbury dating back to the early 1700s. Go to Aylesbury Waterside Theatre’s exclusive exhibition and speak to Artist in Residence Peter Keegan who will be working on his latest painting.
Come and see Aylesbury’s historic Masonic Hall and meet Freemasons who belong to one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world.
Immerse yourself in local historian and photographer Karl Vaughan’s latest photography exhibition at the Old County Hall. Queens Park Arts Centre will be opening its doors for a special open day showcasing everything the Centre has to offer.
There’s plenty more on offer across the weekend including Floating Market near University Campus, The King’s Head, Heritage Walk, Explore the Paralympics at The National Paralympic Heritage Centre, St Mary’s Church and a special online event, ‘Visiting the Vaults Online’ hosted by Discover Bucks taking you on a special behind the scenes tour.
