Sarah Green, Member of Parliament for Chesham and Amersham, has urged any members of the local community with the ability to support Ukrainian families to come forward.
Sarah met with Ukrainian refugee families living in the area at a dinner hosted by the Hilltops Ukrainian Support Community. The dinners are hosted regularly by the organisation which was set up to provide additional assistance to refugees and their hosts, including by supporting their efforts to socialise and integrate into the community.
Following the dinner, Sarah said:
"It was great to see how so many of our Ukrainian guests that we welcomed to Chesham and Amersham six months ago are now becoming a part of our community. I really enjoyed catching up with them and their hosts who have been supporting them.
"Sadly, as the first six months of the Homes for Ukraine scheme comes to an end, some hosts have been unable to extend their offers of accommodation, meaning new homes are needed.
"I would encourage anyone able to offer a secure and stable home to our Ukrainian friends to come forward as soon as possible. Existing hosts have told me that this has been a hugely rewarding experience."
Sarah also spoke to Bucks Radio:
Green's call for assistance comes as figures from the Department of Levelling up, Housing and Communities revealed that 41 Ukrainian households in Buckinghamshire faced the threat of homelessness between 24th February and 23rd September of this year.
