A dedicated group of Aylesbury residents marked another significant step in their grassroots recycling mission this week, after making their latest trip to the local metal recycling centre to cash in a new haul of aluminium cans.
It has been 84 days since their previous run, and in that time, the Aylesbury Wombles, collected an impressive 484 kilograms of aluminium cans — roughly 33,880 cans — gathered from streets and public spaces across Aylesbury.
Since launching their initiative in September 2020, the team has now amassed a staggering 6,670 kilograms of cans, equivalent to an estimated 466,900 cans. The group is now edging closer to an incredible milestone: half a million cans saved from landfill.
Their efforts continue to raise awareness about the value of community-led recycling and environmental stewardship, all while keeping Aylesbury’s streets cleaner — one can at a time.
