Aston Clinton Scouts fight to build hall in memory of young member

Ollie Gardiner with Bear Grylls.

The proposed hut would be partly funded by money donated by the family of Ollie Gardiner, who sadly died a few years ago from a brain tumour in 2017 aged just 13, and is due to be named 'Ollie's Hall'.

The Scout group have planning permission for the build, however they have now hit a block as Bucks Council won't give permission for an access road to the hut which goes over Council owned land.

Because of this, Aston Clinton Scouts have set up a petition to demand answers from Bucks Council and have over 2,000 signatures.

Hear more from developer John Chilver:

We contacted the Bucks Council for comment, Cabinet Member for Finance,Resources, Property and Assets,John Chilver said:

"The Council is very supportive of the Scouts and is not trying to stop the building of a new Scouts Hall in Aston Clinton. Far from it.
However, this particular site has a long and contentious history. It lies  within the Wendover Foothills Landscape Character Area and is
adjacent to the setting of the council's own Green Park. The original planning permission was only granted for four houses, not a Scout Hall.
The concept of a Scout Hall was only introduced recently by the developer in what appears to be an attempt to pressure the council into allowing the
developer to build a road across land that the council owns. We have offered alternative sites within Aston Clinton to the Scouts - we are extremely supportive of such local and voluntary groups and of course will do all we can to help them create a new hall and a lasting tribute."
