The tours are very popular - around 3,000 Midsomer fans and tourists from the UK and around the world have taken the Midsomer Walking Tour since they began eight years ago.
The tour covers the 23 Midsomer filming locations in Thame, one of the most-filmed locations, sometimes appearing as Causton, sometimes as one of the many picturesque villages in Midsomer County (aka Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire). One of seven knowledgeable guides will tell you about each location – including Thame Town Hall (aka Causton Town Hall) and Thame Museum. They are all enthusiastic experts, not only on Midsomer Murders locations, the actors, the bizarre methods of murder and much more, but on local history too. You will learn fascinating snippets about Thame’s history, from its ancient Neanderthal remains and through the centuries to the present day: one Midsomer filming location, the Prebendal, was home to the late Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees.
There are also opportunities to take selfies during the tour: you can pose next to the Causton Town Hall sign outside Thame Town Hall, and at Thame Museum, another of the locations on the tour, your selfie will see you posing next to a life-size cut-out of Neil Dudgeon, the present DCI Barnaby.
Thame Midsomer Tours make a donation to worthy causes at the end of each season and, last year, they made a donation of £1,500 to each of the Mayor’s Charities (Red Kite Family Centre and Thame Youth Projects) and Thame Museum, a registered charity. Including the 2025 donation of £3,000, the ever-popular tours have resulted in over £16,000 being donated to local causes since they began, based on two thirds of ticket sales income each season.
Tour coordinator, Tony Long, said, “We’re delighted to have made so much money for local good causes while giving Midsomer fans locally and from countries around the world a wonderful insight into Thame as a major Midsomer Murders filming location and as a fascinating town. Please join us for a tour when the new season starts on 1st April and help local causes at the same time.”
