Bucks Open Weekend This August
From August 28th to 31st, Buckinghamshire will come alive with over 50 inspiring events celebrating creativity, storytelling, and the natural world during the Bucks Open Weekend 2025.
Organised by Buckinghamshire Culture and supported by Buckinghamshire Council and the Rothschild Foundation, Open Weekend is an invitation for everyone—from families and friends to curious individuals—to experience art, performance, nature, and community in a whole new way. This year’s theme, “Stories and Nature,” offers a unique opportunity to explore the powerful connections between narrative and the natural environment.
Across the four-day celebration, events will span the entire county, both outdoors and indoors, featuring everything from tree-drawing workshops, photographic storytelling, and immersive music, to opera with circus elements, upcycled art, and even snake-themed sculptures and tales.
Key highlights include:
-
A tour of Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, revealing how its architecture was inspired by the Chilterns’ natural beauty.
-
A multi-sensory storytelling experience at Discover Bucks Museum, showcasing Buckinghamshire’s transformation from an ancient sea world to its current landscape.
-
A “Choose Your Own Adventure” day at Wycombe Museum, with storytelling, book-making, face painting, and more.
-
Engaging storytelling sessions and creative workshops at libraries throughout the county.

Julius Weinberg, Co-Chair of Buckinghamshire Culture, said:
"This year's theme of stories and nature has inspired many great events. We are really excited to see so many groups, organisations and artists come forward to nurture the creativity of our county in this way. Thank you to everyone that has chosen to take part in Open Weekend 2025!"
Peter Brazier, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, added:
"It is a fantastic way for everyone to get their creativity flowing and enjoy the wide range of fun activities on offer. With events and activities taking place across the whole county, I'd encourage everyone to take a look at the programme and get involved."
The initiative aims to highlight the depth and diversity of creative experiences available in Buckinghamshire while encouraging people to explore new venues, try new activities, and connect with their communities through the arts.
