Bucks Remembers HRH Prince Philip

HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, visited Buckinghamshire many times from the 1950's to as recently as 2016.

He officially opened the "Edinburgh Playing Fields" on Southcourt in Aylesbury, showed an interest in green spaces and lakes in Milton Keynes before it was created, and supported the early days of the Paralympic movement started at Stoke Mandeville.

Bucks Remembers - Memories of local residents from Buckinghamshire:

Graham Howarth, Head Chef of Chequers, the serving Prime Minister's country house nr Wendover,
shares his memories of the Queen and Prince Philip joining the Prime Minister for lunch.

Alison and Paul Rutland have spent many years living in Wendover.  If it wasn't for the Duke of Edinburgh, they never would have met, fallen in love and got married!

Joe Bradshaw was Assistant Clerk to the Buckinghamshire Lieutenancy between 2002 and 2020. His job was to organise all the Royal Visits for the County.

Emma James used to work for a local radio station with Richard Carr and they bumped into the the Duke at the Bicester & Finmere Show in 2003.

In June 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, a very posh garden party was held at Henley Business School on the banks of the Thames, inviting worthy people from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Red Bull's Christian Horner was there hoping the Duke loved "Horse Power" as much as "Horse Drawn"!

Richard Carr takes a look back at some of the visits the Duke of Edinburgh made over the last seven decades. With additional memories from the Lord Lieutenant Countess Howe at Fridays 'Buckinghamshire service of thanksgiving for HRH Prince Philip'.
