There were A number of mayor making ceremonies last week around the county including High Wycombes Mayor weigh- in at the weekend.
The tradition started in 1638 . By weighing the mayor and local dignitaries each year, the citizens of the town could see if the mayor was “getting fat” off of the taxpayer’s pound.
Today, the Weigh-In is just a symbolic act, instead of rotten fruit they just get booed if they have gained a few pounds.
Wycombe MP Steve Baker took it all very seriously and has been in training for weeks.
The tradition was a lot of fun for the crowds who came out to see Cllr Arif hussain take part in his first official duty as High Wycombe Mayor.
