With more daylight hours and lockdown restrictions easing, roads across Bucks have been getting busier. But not everyone is taking the appropriate safety measures.
Drivers in Bucks are being encouraged to share the road safely throughout April in a new road safety campaign.
Share the Road is an initiative from Travel Safe Bucks who will be sharing safety messages via their social media channels to encourage drivers and cyclists to share the road safely and watch out for one another.
Service Director for Highways and Technical Services, Rob Smith, said: "Buckinghamshire is a lovely county for cycling and its popularity seems to keep on growing, especially over lockdown when getting outside for exercise was so crucial to us all. It's important for us all to be aware that cyclists are vulnerable on the road, and some may be new to cycling.
"We would ask all drivers to be patient and to take extra care around cyclists at junctions and roundabouts. If you're a cyclist, please make sure you wear something bright so that you can be seen easily, make sure your lights are working – and use them!"
If you're travelling around the county, please make sure you're sharing the road safely. Be courteous and allow plenty of space when overtaking bikes – at least 1.5 metres as advised in the Highway Code.
