Overnight Freight Disruptions Through Winslow

Residents disturbed by recent overnight freight trains through Winslow have received an official update from local MP Callum Anderson (Buckingham & Bletchley),

Following a surge in complaints about noise disturbances in the early hours, Mr Anderson acknowledged the impact the unexpected freight activity has had on the community:

“Over the past few weeks, a number of residents have been in touch with me about freight trains running through Winslow during the night – in some cases waking people multiple times. I completely understand how disruptive this must have been.”

The MP confirmed he had contacted Network Rail directly for answers. According to their response, the nighttime freight was the result of a temporary diversion implemented to accommodate engineering works elsewhere on the network. That diversion has now concluded, and services are expected to return to their usual schedules.

He also provided clarity on regular freight operations, noting that while the railways operate 24/7, Winslow typically sees one regular daytime freight train around lunchtime four days a week.

“Freight can – and sometimes does – run overnight when needed,” he added.

Mr Anderson acknowledged the value of freight trains in reducing road congestion and emissions — each freight service can take up to 76 lorries off the road — but stressed that this must be weighed against the impact on local residents, especially during unsociable hours.

Winslow Station Car Park Works Begin This Month

In a related update, Network Rail has also confirmed that construction on the Winslow Station car park will begin on 11 August and continue through to December, with works taking place on weekdays between 8am and 6:30pm.

The works are expected to bring some noise and disruption to the area due to the use of heavier machinery. Notification letters have reportedly already been issued to residents living nearby.
