Motorists parking in Buckinghamshire’s council-run car parks or on-street chargeable bays will soon be able to control over how they pay, due to a new digital initiative being rolled out this month.
Buckinghamshire Council began countywide implementation of the National Parking Platform (NPP) – a scheme designed to introduce multiple payment providers for parking, following a successful 2024 trial in High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, Bourne End, and Marlow.
What Is the National Parking Platform?
The NPP allows users to choose from a variety of approved digital parking apps and providers — moving away from the single-provider model (previously RingGo-only).
Motorists can now select from services such as:
-
JustPark
-
PayByPhone
-
AppyParking
-
RingGo (still available)
Each provider has its own app, telephone line (where available), and convenience fees, giving customers more control over their parking experience and price point.
“This change empowers drivers to pick the best value and most convenient payment method for them,” said Steve Bowles, Cabinet Member for Communities. “We’re adapting to evolving customer needs, and this approach supports our long-term Parking Strategy.”
Benefits for Drivers:
-
More choice in payment providers
-
Potential savings thanks to competitive pricing
-
Continued availability of cash/card payment machines for non-digital users
-
Greater alignment with modern parking behaviours
When Will It Happen?
The NPP rollout is underway now and will complete by the end of July 2025 across all council-managed parking areas in Buckinghamshire.
