A brand new BMX Pump Track has officially opened at Bedgrove Park, marking the successful completion of a major community-led project aimed at enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities in Aylesbury
The initiative, spearheaded by the Bedgrove Residents & Community Association (BRCA) in collaboration with numerous generous sponsors, was celebrated this week with an official opening ceremony. Jo Cheek, a leading figure from the BRCA, dedicated two years to managing the project and successfully raised over £117,000 to bring the track to life. The facility is designed for use by all ages and skill levels and is accessible to a wide range of users – including riders of mountain bikes, BMX bikes, balance bikes, scooters, skateboards, and roller skates. “This has been a real labour of love, and I’m thrilled to see the track finally open to the community,” said Cheek. “It’s something that everyone can enjoy, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider.” The Bedgrove Park Pump Track is already being hailed as a valuable new asset to the area, encouraging physical activity, community engagement, and outdoor fun for families and individuals alike. Jo Cheek, a leading member of the association, reflected on the journey: “Two years of lots of hard work. Big learning curve. But, you know, we just stuck at it and got there in the end.” Her voice brimmed with pride as she described the overwhelming positive response from local families. “Everyone’s loving it. I’m so proud, actually. And it’s so heartwarming to see everyone having so much fun.” The project, which has brought together residents of all ages, appears to be fostering not just fun, but a strong sense of community. “I’ve been down here a few times,” Cheek said, “and parents have said, oh, you know, the older ones are really looking out for the younger kids, so I think that’s fantastic.” The new BMX facility at Bedgrove Park has won praise from local law enforcement, with Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Tom Moslin calling it a positive step for the area and its youth. “It’s wonderful to see everyone here — from the younger ones all the way up to champions and more experienced BMX riders,” said PCSO Moslin during a community event celebrating the project’s launch. “It’s a great addition to the Park.” The new track is already proving popular among local residents and is being seen as more than just a sporting facility. Moslin highlighted its potential to keep young people engaged in healthy, outdoor activities: “Bringing them outside, diverting them away from perhaps less desirable activities.” PCSO Moslin added that he looks forward to seeing the track in use regularly while out on patrol.
