Officers from Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit are continuing a murder investigation following an incident in Upper Belmont Road on Tuesday (10/6).
At approximately 5.20pm the force received a call from South Central Ambulance Service that a man had been assaulted at the Upland Avenue junction with Upper Belmont Road.
The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition, and tragically died on Saturday evening (14/6).
Officers arrested an 18-year-old man and a 46-year-old man, both from Chesham, on suspicion of murder.
Yesterday (17/6), a post-mortem was conducted but at this stage the cause of death could not be determined.
Formal identification processes have not yet taken place.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Peter Clarke of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family following this tragic incident. We continue to support them, providing updates on the investigation. Our investigation is continuing with multiple lines of enquiry being followed, however at this time we are not looking to make any further arrests in relation to the assault. Further forensic tests are required following the post-mortem earlier this afternoon, as such we have bailed the two people arrested so this further work can be conducted. Members of the public are likely to see an ongoing police presence while we carry out our enquiries. If anyone has information and has not yet come forward then they can call 101 or make a report online (external site) quoting reference number 43250286973. Alternatively, you can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Buckinghamshire commander, Chief Superintendent Emma Burroughs, said: “We continue to provide support to the community following this incident, which we believe is isolated. Members of the public will continue to see a uniformed police presence in the area and we would ask if anyone has any concerns what so ever then please do speak to one of our officers. We would again thank the community for the patience and support they have shown following this incident.”
