Approximately 300 homes in the HP21 area are without gas. SGN say it's due to water in the network, and they have opened a customer hub to help elderly and vulnerable residents, while also offering help and advice.
UPDATE AS OF 5pm on Thursday 4/9:
Waseem Hanif, spokesperson for gas distribution network SGN, told Bucks Radio
"We're urgently working to restore gas supplies in Aylesbury after water from a burst water main entered our network. Around 346 properties have been affected.
To get supplies back on as quickly and safely as possible, our engineers have visited all the affected homes to turn off gas supplies individually, are carrying out excavations to reach pockets of water in the network and using specialist syphon tankers to remove it.
We're making good progress, with additional teams brought in from across our network, and have removed over 2,500 litres of water so far. This has allowed us to begin restoring supplies to homes in Ashbourne End, Helford Close, Seaton Drive, Torridge Road and Windrush Court.
Our teams are also continuing to support the community at our customer service hub in Hawkslade Community Centre, where we are providing electric hotplates and heaters to vulnerable customers.
This is a complex process which involves clearing water from different sections of pipe, so it may take some time to complete, and some customers could remain off supply into the weekend.
We'd like to thank residents for their patience while we carry out this work to get everyone back on supply as quickly as possible."
Wednesday 3/9:
There are engineers working on the problem, but the company says it's difficult to estimate exactly how long it will take to restore supplies. Until the issue is resolved, you are advised not to try and use gas in your home. Once it's safe to reconnect the supply, SGN engineers may have to visit your home to carry out further checks.
Streets affected are:
• Verney Walk
• Birch Court
• Windrush Court
• Taylor Road
• Dane Court
• Seaton Drive
• Grenville Green
• Helford Close
• Ashbourne End
The customer service hub has been opened at the Hawkslade Community Centre in Barley Crescent, with electric hotplates and heaters available for vulnerable customers.
SGN say residents can drop in to ask any questions or seek assistance.
