UPDATE: London Road A413 Closed due to Burst Water Mains Possibly for next Ten Days.

UPDATE: The A413 has been closed by Affinity Water. Affinity Water are investigating multiple bursts outside the pumping station, resulting in flooding of the road and making it unsafe for road users.

The road will need to remain closed to enable Affinity Water to fix their pipes and then repair the road structure and surface. Due to the extent of the damage, Affinity Water have advised that the closure may need to be in place for up to 10 days. We will continue to provide updates as they become available and you can monitor their progress via One Network: https://one.network.

We ask that you continue to use alternative routes where possible and allow additional time for your journey.

Thames Valley Police closed the A413 near the railway bridge after a major water main burst this morning (16/07/2025), causing significant flooding in the area. Affinity Water are currently on-site working to contain the damage and carry out emergency repairs. Eyewitness reports suggest the water has affected local businesses, including a café and car wash.

Several drivers described the scene as “like a swimming pool,” with at least two vehicles reportedly stuck in deep water. Police are now stationed at both ends of the affected area, diverting traffic and advising motorists to avoid the road entirely.

"I got through about 5:40 – it's bad. Not gonna be a quick fix," one resident posted.
"I've just been through – 2 cars stuck, it's so deep. Café and car wash underwater. Avoid, avoid, avoid," warned another.

Some locals speculate the burst may be related to recent roadworks, including repairs to a sinkhole last week. Others expressed frustration, citing recurring issues with leaks and rising water bills.

Authorities are urging drivers to seek alternative routes and avoid the area until further notice.
