Late-Night Fireworks Spark Outrage in Aylesbury

A spate of extremely loud fireworks let off around 1am on Sunday morning (03/08/25) has drawn widespread criticism from residents in Aylesbury, with many describing the incident as inconsiderate, disruptive, and selfish.

The disturbance, believed to have originated off Tring Road, was reported by dozens of locals across community forums and social media. Many were woken by the sudden, thunderous explosions, with some describing the sound as “like machine guns” and “not like any fireworks I’ve ever heard.”

Residents from as far afield as Bedgrove, Wendover Road, Elm Farm, and near Stoke Mandeville Hospital reported being affected. Some questioned whether it was a legitimate celebration or simply antisocial behaviour.

One parent wrote that their baby was restless all night, and their dog was “petrified,” while another resident, who had just returned from six weeks abroad, said the noise destroyed her first peaceful night at home. Pet owners also shared concerns, reporting that their animals were terrified, with one cat reportedly hiding in fear.

The lack of prior notice and the timing of the display were particularly frustrating for many. “I’m all for people having fun,” one resident wrote, “but that's beyond a joke” Others noted the impact on work and sleep, with one woman stating she went to her job the next day on “three to four hours' sleep.”

Some commenters speculated that the fireworks may have been part of a wedding celebration, others questioned whether the sounds were even fireworks, with suggestions that smoke and noise levels pointed to something else entirely.

Several residents called for reports to be made to Thames Valley Police and the local council, citing anti-social behaviour and potential fines.

Despite the uproar, some voices in the thread defended the celebrations, arguing that people are entitled to enjoy themselves. However, the overwhelming response from the community leaned toward frustration and a call for greater respect and accountability.

A spokes person for Aylesbury Town Council says: "Nothing has been raised to us".

Buckinghamshire Council have commented: "Our Environmental Protection Team has advised that we've not received any reports - either from TVP or residents - about these fireworks. The team has also told me that The Fireworks Regulations 2004 make it an offence to set off fireworks at this time and the legislation outlines that the police are the enforcement authority not the local authority".

Thames Valley Police released this statement to Bucks Radio: “We received a report of antisocial behaviour at around 1.10am yesterday morning (3/8) after fireworks were set off.

“Officers are conducting a thorough investigation following this incident and would urge anyone with information to please report it to police, quoting reference number 43250392541.

“Incidents of antisocial behaviour often increase during the summer period, and in order for us to effectively tackle the issue, we need people who are affected to report it.

“If you experience or witness antisocial behaviour, report it via our website. Remember, if there is an emergency or someone is in danger, always call 999.”
