The initiative by Active in the Community was designed to promote sustainability, accessibility and community engagement through the upcycling of unused bicycles.
The project was piloted in Aylesbury over a year long period due to recent investment in the local cycling infrastructure. Successfully, 200 refurbished bicycles were provided to their targeted communities as well as equipping recipients with helmets, lights, locks and a puncture repair kit.
AITC also secured funding for an additional 30 bikes to be delivered due to the sheer demand.
The team are no longer collecting bikes, but they hope in the future they will be able to reopen collections. They also hope to roll it out countywide and would like to chat with anyone who would be interested in helping fund the project.
