MP for Chesham and Amersham Sarah Green wrote to CEO of HS2 Ltd and the Transport Secretary last Thursday urging them to rethink their contracts with Oleg Deripaska, who has been sanctioned by the UK government.
Through his company, Rasperia Trading Ltd., Mr Deripaska owned a 27.8% stake in Strabag, an organisation forming part of HS2 main works contractor SCS joint venture.
This morning the firm’s core shareholder, the Haselsteiner Family Private Foundation, confirmed that the syndicate agreement through which they shared ownership has been terminated, and the Russian oligarch will no longer receive dividend payments from Strabag.
Reacting to the news, Sarah Green said:
‘I welcome Strabag’s decision to cut ties with Oleg Deripaska and I am pleased that HS2 Ltd have confirmed that he will no longer be receiving taxpayer money through HS2.
‘In my letters, I asked the Transport Secretary and CEO of HS2 to conduct a thorough audit of stakeholders in all companies contracted to work on publicly funded projects, including HS2. They must reassure the British public that going forward, no sanctioned individuals will be in receipt of taxpayer money.’
