Organisers have cited the extreme hot weather as the reason for cancelling.
Their full statement:
"Dear Relayers,
It is with great disappointment and a heavy heart the tough decision has been made to cancel our Relay for this weekend due to the unprecedented soaring temperatures the UK are experiencing.
Every combination has been considered but ultimately welfare and duty of care dictates. We are after all raising money for vital funds and holding our amazing Relay in such temperatures and direct sunlight would be irresponsible.
Our thoughts are very much focused on looking for an alternative date to hold Relay this year which may mean a virtual/ satellite one.
Gutted doesn't begin to cover the feelings this evening as it has been one of our hardest decisions to make.
Thank you all for your continued support, understanding and determination going forward."
