Laura Kyrke-Smith has created a petition to redesign the scaffolding on the High Street in Aylesbury and has taken to social media to gain support.
Posting on Facebook, the Labour MP said: "This morning (25/6) I met with El Halal owner Mr Khan to discuss the impact the awful scaffolding on High Street is having on his business. The ugly scaffolding has been completely blocking the pavement for eight years, and it is hurting business for Mr Khan's restaurant. It's also dangerous: I've spoken with people using wheelchairs and people using mobility scooters who have to swerve out onto the road to get around it.
Today I'm launching a petition calling on Buckinghamshire Council to sort out this scaffolding as soon as possible. I am pressing the Council to:
1) Procure a structural engineer to assess the site as soon as possible.
2) Consider the potential merits of redesigning the scaffolding so pedestrians, including disabled people, can walk safely on the pavement.
3) Engage with local residents and local business to find a workable solution.
4) Work towards removing all scaffolding safely."
The petition can be found here (external site)
Buckinghamshire Council have been approached for comment.
